Re-Elect Councilman George Chen for Torrance City Council District 2
in the city's Inaugural By-District Election on March 3, 2020.
in the city's Inaugural By-District Election on March 3, 2020.
I was elected on June 5, 2018 serving the City of Torrance At-Large. However, the previous Council decided to change to By-District Election beginning with the March 3, 2020 Election. They also selected District 2 which I live in as one of the 3 districts to start the first By-District Election. Each District Councilmember must live in the district they represent.
Running an election so soon after the June 2018 election was not an easy decision to make. However, we feel there are exciting progress we've already accomplished in such a short time, we need the opportunity to realize our vision by giving us the option to run for a second term. With your support, we will continue our path for "A Vibrant Future" for Torrance.
I currently serve as the chairman of the Employee Relations and Public Safety Committee. In addition, I am a member of the Strategic Committee and the Community Planning and Design Committee.
I am a graduate of UCLA with a degree in Electrical Engineering. I had a 33-year career from Raytheon Company (formerly Hughes Aircraft Company) working on Electronic Warfare and Airborne Radar programs as a system engineering and later as a program manager.
I love to participate in sports of all kinds and regularly participates in endurance events such as running marathons, 200-mile relays (RAGNAR), and hiking (e.g., Mt. Whitney, Half Dome, Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim).
We have been a resident of Torrance since 1992 and have lived in the South Bay since the late 1960’s after emigrating from Taiwan.
My wife and I are active members at their local church in Torrance. They have participated in multiple short-term mission trips. In addition, he is a member of Torrance Kiwanis.
